About Matt and Tad:

Living in South London and born to an Irish and Trinidadian background, fiddle player Matt Tighe is quickly making a name for himself in the world of folk and Traditional music. He has been described as a, “fiery virtuoso”, and has already had an extensive experience in performance, playing at many festivals and clubs within the UK and Ireland. Matt has won numerous awards such as the London Fiddle Champion and numerous All Britain Championships, been a finalist in the Danny Kyle Award at Celtic Connections and a nominee at the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award.

London Born Tad Sargent, whose family roots come from Castlebar in county Mayo, started playing music at a young age on the piano.  He started playing the bodhrán (the Irish drum) in 2002 after re-discovering his childhood love for Irish music. Learning about Irish music took years of attending sessions run by Irish music legends such as Mick O’Connor.  He picked up the bouzouki in 2008 and has performed/recorded and worked with many great musicians and groups such as Barrule, Tony Christie, Luke Daniels and Cara Dillon.

We’ve joined forces with the team at The John Bunyan Community Boat and we are so excited to announce the launch of ‘Folk on the Boat’.

Our first cruise takes place on Thursday evening, June 14th 2018. It will feature well known folk artists Bryony Griffith and Will Hampson from Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. Expect powerful vocals, deliciously rustic fiddle playing and driving yet sensitive box playing. They have a distinctive repertoire of dark ballads, chorus songs and dance tunes all delivered with good-humoured Yorkshire banter. The Mill Race Folk team, MarisaJack&Davy will be onboard playing a few songs too.

It’s a two hour cruise that leaves from the moorings at the Barns Hotel, Cardington Road, Bedford. We’ll be boarding at 7.15 p.m.

There’s a 3 course pre-cruise dinner that can be booked in advance from the Barns Hotel (01234 270044). Drinks are available from the Riverside Tavern Bar.
