Mill Race Folk Social FAQ

The next Mill Race Folk Social is on Saturday 14th April at The Star Rowing Club, Commercial Road, Bedford

How does it work?

If you would like to perform, just put your name on the list when you come in and you will be called to perform when your name comes up. There is no mic or amplification, you just sing or play in the room.

We may get round the list more than once, so please prepare more than one song if you like!

We have a featured performer who will play for around 30 minutes after the floor spots so performances must end by their start time (we’ll keep an eye on it and let everyone know).

What should I sing/play?

You can sing or play whatever you like, but this is a folk night so we would prefer folk or folk inspired songs. We welcome songs from any country or culture, and we offer an inclusive and supportive environment for any ability of musician or singer.

Please try to choose songs that aren’t too long, so that everyone gets a turn.

Do I have to join in?

No, you don’t have to sing or play anything if you don’t want to, though we do offer a bit of a discount to encourage more people to perform.

When is it my turn?

We will have a list at the door, and the order of the night is the order on the list. One song each, and we will go around again when we get to the end.

If you are using an instrument, please make sure it’s tuned up and ready to play by the time we get to you.
