Cinder Well Review

Cinder Well were incredible at Foster Hill Road Cemetery Chapel in Bedford.  ††††This venue sounds so good it’s unreal! We feel so lucky to have had the chance to use this magical space, isolated on the top of the hill.

Adrian Bean wrote a lovely review of the night. We’ve included a little excerpt:

“The chapel was an ideal place to perform plaintive melodies about death and loss. Multi-instrumentalist Amelia has an amazing voice, and the harmonies with Marit were as beautiful and haunting as anything that can ever have been heard in the chapel. Sad but joyous. Musicianship made to look easy. And to cap it all, they love graveyards.”

Thanks so much to everyone who attended, and listened, and sang along, and drank the bar dry!

Huge thanks to Ebb, Sue, Adrian and from Friends at Foster Hill Cemetery for all their help and to our good mate, Robbie for ushering people up the hill. Also thanks to Rachel and James at Made in Bedford at Number 13 for providing delicious vegan wraps!

Next Chapel gig is The Askew Sisters on 19th October.

Folk on the Boat

With Brown Boots!

Ahoy there!
Hey Ho! Folk is going on a musical river cruise and you’re all invited!

We’ve some lively folk music from Brown Boots! They are a traditional folk duo made up of Will Allen on melodeon and Martin Clarke on fiddle.

They’ll take you on a journey across beautiful musical landscapes, which is perfect as the boat will be travelling along the pretty river through Bedford. The duo play tunes from across Britain and Ireland – and even further afield. It’s like going for a walk on a clear, spring morning, with the fresh air full of life! No need to bring your walking boots this time though guys, it’s a cosy boat trip!

We’ll depart from the Barns Hotel (Cardington Road, Bedford) at 19.30pm for a 2 hour round trip, tickets are £17.50 per person and there’ s a licensed bar available on board.

At an extra cost, you can select a picnic box. (£9) to go with your ticket. Call the friendly team at John Bunyan Community boat on 01946 690301 to get tickets. See you there!

Thanks Ewan!

Ewan McLennan at Moot Hall

Hey Ho! We had to change the name of our folk night, but we hope you like it! Mill Race Folk from now on will be known as Hey Ho! Folk. We’ll still be putting on extraordinary folk shows in gorgeous locations around Bedfordshire!

Thanks so much to everyone who came out to deepest darkest Elstow to see Ewan McLennan at the sold out spooky old Moot Hall last night. Wasn’t he incredible? Davypoo was magical as the support. Davy also made a film of Ewan performing Corrie Doon for the Hey Ho! podcast. We can’t wait to share it with you.

We hope to see you all again soon. Marisa, Jack and Davy the hosts of Hey Ho! Folk, are on all the usual social media platforms and we’d love to hear from you x
